Living A Straight Forward Life In A Crooked World
We live in a modern world where many have lost their sense of identity, purpose and destiny. It is a world without spiritual guide posts and many now grope in religious and materialistic blindness; often resulting in decayed and decadent societies with broken moral fibre and torn social fabrics. This is evident in many American and Western European cities where many families are in disarray and many youths are battling with identity crisis and personality conflicts. The human herd is being swept along by the tides of public opinion that drive them into false living, hypocrisy distorted values, immorality and short sighted conformity to vain societal conventions that put them in strait jackets and chains. Truth often becomes the exception while falsehood becomes the rule. People are seldom guided by conscience, principle or reason but are propelled by the quest for sense gratification and conflicting materialistic and sensual desires as well as primitive drives like greed, avarice, inordinate ambition, compulsive sex, quest for power, etc., that drive people against one another. Many traumatised people, especially youths vent their anger and frustrations by unleashing violence on society through criminal acts like murder and armed robbery. Many Western European youths sneak across borders to join the ranks of ISIS (Islami State of Iraq and Syria) who are trying to use Islamic religious fundamentalism and terror to impose their founder’s subjective outlook on life on the rest of humanity, and have been committing unspeakable crimes against humanity.
How then can an honest man live in the midst of liers, where truth is a stranger, evil reigns and good is in danger? The masses are driven by public opinion and vain societal conventions that puts them in chains and prevents them from raising their consciousness above race and religion. In America and Western Europe, people generally live self centred, pleasure seeking lives devoid of spiritual regulations. In Africa and the “third” world where under development has met modernity, people generally grope in religious and materialistic blindness in a world without spiritual guide posts. The objection to religion is that it removes one’s mind from the present, confines it to the past and gets one entangled in a cob web of dogmatic creeds that gives him a narrow and distorted out look on life. There is nothing that gives credence to falsehood like religion. Religion often clouds the mind, creates conflicts, entangles the soul, en-yokes one’s imagination and hinders one’s ability to discern good from evil. So, turn your back on religion which is based on dogma that divides, and embrace spirituality which is based on love that unites and truth that liberates. Look inwards for self discovery, resolve the conflict between your subjective out look on life (how you see things) and objective reality (how things are) so that you will no longer get lost in the crowd. Unless a man resolves to step out from the crowd, take his stand, turn his back to illusion and face reality; he will never be able to resolve the conflict between the one and the many or difuse the bitter tension between self and society.
